Our Partners

RHINO is led by two Spanish research groups at the forefront of microwave technology and catalytic materials research. With a focus on multidisciplinary activities, both partners will collaborate in this 2-year project -from December 2022 to November 2024- across 7 Work Packages, each addressing critical aspects of materials development, microwave technology, and impact assessment.

CSIC-ITQ

The Agencia Estatal Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) is the largest public multidisciplinary research organization in Spain. As of 2024, CSIC operates 123 institutes or centers and collaborates extensively with national and international universities, public RTD organizations, SMEs, companies, and other institutions of a scientific or technological nature. The organization employs over 13,000 staff members, including around 4,000 permanent researchers and over 5,000 pre- and post-doctoral researchers. CSIC continues to be a prominent participant in European research programs, securing significant funding and recognition. In the Horizon 2020 program (2014-2020), CSIC was awarded 545 projects, receiving a total EU financial contribution of approximately 250 million euros, placing it among the top European research organizations in terms of both funding and project participation.

The Instituto de Tecnología Química (CSIC-ITQ) is a joint research centre founded in 1990 by the CSIC and the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV). The CSIC-ITQ is a worldwide recognised institute that integrates catalysis and materials science through a multidisciplinary approach. CSIC-ITQ has a multidisciplinary research group with large experience in development and characterisation of electro-catalytic materials and ionic membranes, as well as in the design, optimisation and own fabrication of fully-automated laboratory reactor prototypes, proved by the number of published publications, patents and the ongoing projects.

UPV-ITACA

The Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), founded in 1971, is a dynamic, innovative, and entrepreneurial public institution dedicated to training, research, and technology transfer. This commitment is reflected in its performance in international rankings. By 2022, the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) consistently rated UPV as the top technical university in Spain, maintaining its position among the top 400 universities globally. Furthermore, the «Times Higher Education 100 Under 50» ranking has recognized UPV among the world’s top 100 universities under 50 years old, highlighting its rapid ascent and strong impact.UPV has effective mechanisms for the dissemination of scientific and technological results, and excels in the training of researchers, in the creation of technology-based companies and in patent generation. Nowadays UPV is the first Spanish university in number of patents and leader in scientific global productivity.

The Institute of Information and Communication Technologies (ITACA) of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) has as its mission the improvement of our society through the transfer and application of knowledge from research in the field of Information and Communications Technology (ICT). Located at the Scientific Park of the UPV, ITACA has a staff of more than 100 researchers, and offers a unique working environment for research that is characterized by a strong commitment to collaboration with other research centers and industry, facilitating the acceleration of innovation and encouraging an entrepreneurial culture. ITACA conducts research over a broad spectrum of disciplines related to ICT, including digital electronic systems, industrial electronics, telecommunication systems, telematics, ICT systems in healthcare, sensor integration, electronic compatibility, electromagnetism and microwave research.
